In Gilgit we got to know Kajum, who had started with his own means to help
beggars and old and mentally disordered people in his near surroundings.
Kajum is helping with food, clothings and in his own house there is
always a large room standing open for someone needing a bed or a
shelter.
This room, situated a little aside of the other rooms, stays unlocked
by day and by night, none of Kajum’s guests has to ask for
permission if he wants to stay, it’s a free coming and going.
Kajum is financing this aid and the life of his numerous family with a
souvenirshop and a small house he is lending occasionally to tourists.
That way we got to know him and his work.
What fascinates us most about his kind of help is, that Kajum stands
for the few remaining rights of the poor, respects their rights as
humans, and offers his hand for help without forcing his will upon
someone.
