May, 19th - 29th - Parasite GAP

May, 19th - May, 29th | Parasite GAP
In the middle of the night in Diyarbakir Atreju started to throw up and simultaniously diarrhoea came. I provided him with the medicine aboard, but in the morning there was no improvement, so I went to the next pharmacy to describe the symptoms and fetch a better suited medicine. Two doctors were present and accompanied me to the trailer at once to examine Atreju. They diagnosed a light stomach trouble, they calmed us down, prescribed an analgesic for children and a rebuilding milk for the bowels. Reassured that it was no appendicitis, we drove on until diarrhoea started with Ewald.
We were sure to get all settled again with a diet and really things got better.
Schneespiele Gratersee
Atreju played highspirited again in the snow, as we drove up from Tatvan at Lake Van to the second Nemrut Dagi of Turkey. After arriving at the crater lake we were besieged, questioned and photographed by the families, that had come here for picnic. The position of the sun and the beauty of the landscape let us decide to spend the night up there.
After the last people had taken leave, Atreju got a relapse. He threw up lots and his stool was only water. What should we do, I got panic. Ewald wanted to risk a drive by the full moons light, but the Areju confessed, that he had secretly eaten a piece of roasted chicken, he had gotten from one of the families. So it was clear to us, why it had come to the relapse.
After a restless night we set off for a hospital, but Atreju had recovered, so we took a room in a hotel, to clean our bodies and all our laundry, that had been polluted. I just finished all work, while Atreju and Ewald recovered in the hotel beds, until I broke down. Now it had got me.
So the next day began in the hospital of Tatvan. Blood, urin and stool were tested – result: Parasite Giardia GAP.
We got prescriptions for antibiotica, analgesics, stoppers for diarrhoe and vomiting for grownups and children. To my and Atrejus joy the doctor said, we were allowed to eat everything we wanted, so we would get rid of Ewalds rice-joghurt-banana diet.
So we only had to find a suitable place for recovering from the strain. Unfortunately we didn’t find it the same day, so we spent the night at an unusual place for rest, consisting of a mosque and a toilet. We took place exactly in the middle between the buildings, and it was good to do so, because at one in the morning I raced to the toilet. My stool was only water. At five o clock I was so weak, that I only asked Ewald to take me to a doctor in the nearby town. He was for going back to Tatvan to the hospital, but I didn’t feel strong enough to stand the sixty kilometre drive there. Better a doctor immediately and if necessairy, I wanted to be brought to hospital by ambulance.
In Adilcevas already some people were on their way at this early hour and showed us the way to the doctor, which turned out soon to be a hospital. There, after some communication problems, I was provided with an infusion.
Krankenhaus erholt
At change of shift a young doctor came, who had good knowledge of the English language. He explained, that I had nothing to be concerned about, that I was only weak and gave me the next infusion. He offered us, that we all could spend the night in the threebed-room in the hospital, but Ewald and Atreju prefered the trailer. The next morning I felt better and we took lodge in a hotel.
Filmteam
There also a film team from Istanbul was staying, they were shooting the film “Umuda Yolculuk” (“Happy Ways”) where we were integrated into a scene immediately. The comedian of the film, a famous actor in Turkey, marveled at the tractor, was scared by our radiator mascot, the donkeys head, and ask Ewald for an adress. We had to play the scene three times, then it worked, the director was satisfied. So the parasite got us into film and it was done with quiet life for good.
Testessen
After our recovery we moved back to the trailer, for which we had found a nice place near the old mosque. There the doctor from the hospital visited us with his friends for barbecue. He brought pieces of chicken in oil and hot chilli sauce, we made jokes: if we survive this meal, we are well again, and so it was, diarrhoe and vomiting stayed away.
